Ung Svensk Form 2024 @ Stockholm Furniture Fair

Salon, pavilion, fair or hall – for an exhibition that tours every corner of the country, flexibility in the framework is essential. For Ung Svensk Form 2024, a new exhibition format has been created in collaboration with designer Matti Klenell and producer Dunkers Kulturhus.

The Ung Svensk Form (Young Swedish Design) exhibition is back, taking centre stage in Greenhouse. Ung Svensk Form is an annual award and exhibition showcasing the exciting Swedish design scene, under the auspices of Svensk Form (the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design).

Thanks to our new collaboration, we can design the entire exhibition in the same passionate spirit, says Karin Wiberg, project manager for Ung Svensk Form.

Årsringar
For such a multifaceted group of designers, a flexible exhibition design is required, accommodating many different objects and diverse spaces. Swedish designer Matti Klenell has created the concept Årsringar (Annual Rings), featuring drip-painted wooden cubes in different sizes. During transport, the cubes are efficiently packed into one another, and in the exhibition space; they are assembled into podium islands.

The concept is based on reuse and making visible the marks of time. In collaboration with Svenskt Trä (Swedish Wood) as a material advisor, potential beauty spots are seen not as flaws but as a strength that communicates a story of time passed. In symbiosis with the wood’s irregular twig marks, future editions of the exhibition are given an accent color in the form of drip-painting.

– The fantastic Ung Svensk Form is, to me, primarily a social event. It’s a way for participants to connect with the audience and potential colleagues to collaborate with in the future. Even in my role as the exhibition’s designer, the social aspect was crucial to take on the exciting challenge of designing this year’s edition, says Matti Klenell.

From Greenhouse to galleries
After the opening in Greenhouse, the exhibition continues on a year-long tour to Dunkers Kulturhus, Southern Sweden Design Days by Form/Design Center, Sara Kulturhus, IKEA Museum, and Röhsska Museet.

The exhibition Ung Svensk Form 2024 is a co-production between Svensk Form and Dunkers Kulturhus. The project is carried out in collaboration with IKEA of Sweden, IKEA Museum, Malmö Stad, Stockholm Furniture Fair, Svenskt Trä, and a long list of scholarship donors and exhibition organizers.

Stockholm Furniture Fair 2024 will take place 6-10 February 2024.
