Background
Abstracta has been designing for the soundscape since 1972, working out of Lammhult in southern Sweden as part of the Lammhults Design Group — the same industrial home base as Lammhults and Källemo. What began as an acoustics specialist has grown into a design-led range of sound-absorbing screens, wall panels, pods and lighting, used everywhere from open-plan offices to airport hangars.
Design philosophy
Abstracta’s premise is that acoustic treatment doesn’t have to look like an afterthought bolted onto a wall. Each product is developed with a named designer rather than treated as a purely technical fix, on the belief that a room’s soundscape and its visual character are the same design problem — not two separate ones.
Key collaborations
Anya Sebton has one of the longest-running relationships with the brand, dating back to the original Scala screen series. Thomas Bernstrand built an entire product family around the dB name, most recently combining it with lighting in Moon. Staffan Holm designed the enclosed Zen Pod, while Stefan Borselius contributed the ceiling-mounted Air-X system. Pia Wallén and Poul Christiansen have both brought a softer, more tactile register to the range with pieces like Combo Deluxe and My Hive.
Recent work
2026 has brought a fresh Zen Pod furniture upgrade from Staffan Holm and a new desk screen, Hinge, designed by Eddie Gustafsson — evidence that after five decades, Abstracta is still adding new names to its list of collaborators rather than resting on its longest-running ones.
