Eva Schildt is a Swedish designer who grew up on an island in the Stockholm archipelago, an upbringing she describes as a constant presence in her work. She graduated in Furniture and Product Design from Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm in 2001, and has since designed furniture, textiles, packaging and trade fair showcases, alongside working as an interior architect. Her designs are often sculptural and nearly always carry an element of humour and multifunctionality — a vase with a net built into its base so that flowers resemble a meadow, or an outdoor table with a small bowl built in to turn rainwater into a feast for birds.
Her graduation project became the Gardener’s Sofa for Design House Stockholm, later relaunched commercially and acquired by the Nationalmuseum. She has also worked closely with Svenskt Tenn, having worked in their textile department as a student before designing pieces including the Oolong table and Vienna rug, and with Nola, for whom she has designed the Lemon sofa, the Daggkåpa screen, and, more recently, the mobility aid Stig and the Promenad furniture collection for care environments.
For NC Nordic Care, she has designed the ongoing Humlan collection, extended over several years with new pieces including Humlan 722 and a pair of coffee tables, and for Swedish textile brand Mille Notti she has designed the Luca, Carla and Franca bedside tables, later extended with a matching bench. Her other clients include IKEA, Klong, Playsam and Skandium, and she has previously lived in Tokyo, collaborating with Japanese companies including Actus and Askul. Her work is held in the collections of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg.
