“The starting point was to explore how upholstery and construction can meet in a new way, where the textile does not simply lie on top but becomes a more integrated part of the form,” say Färg & Blanche.

In Split, the textile integrates with the construction and meets the legs, linking soft and structural elements. The design builds on a split metal tube forming intersecting arches, creating a distinctive yet balanced expression. This interplay gives the series an organic, almost animal quality, while precise seams add a tailored finish.

“The meeting between the point of the textile and the metal arches is central, it is where much of the product’s character emerges,” say Färg & Blanche.

Split marks the beginning of a growing family. First introduced as bar stools and a bench, it is designed to expand into new typologies such as a low stool, armchair and modular sofa, with a focus on flexibility and generous upholstery.

The combination of metal and textile allows for versatile colour work, from contrasts to tone-on-tone. With Split, Johanson and Färg & Blanche present a product family where construction, upholstery and material interplay define a distinct identity.

“With Lyon, we wanted to create a new chair that also combines metal with an upholstered seat and back, from a more organic starting point. Here, we have focused on lines that move, meet and flow together to shape both the legs and the armrests. The goal was to find a natural and almost intuitive flow in the chair’s lines,” say Färg & Blanche.

A defining feature is the arch formed by the rear metal legs, which in the armrest version continues forward into a single, continuous line connecting the chair’s structure. The result is a cohesive and fluid form.

Lyon is designed as an elegant, versatile chair suitable for a range of environments. It is available with or without armrests and is stackable, offering flexibility for both public and private spaces. A key detail is the junction at the back where the metal lines meet, both structurally and visually.

“The chair has grown out of the movement of the hand, a search for lines that feel natural, elegant and alive,” say Färg & Blanche.”
