In the PRO BOK project, SPOK explores the collaboration between designers and producers to investigate new uses and innovations of Scanian beech wood. The exhibition showcases the potential of beech wood in future design and construction, as well as the benefits of working with locally produced timber.
The interest in beech wood has decreased when it comes to interior design and building construction. The wood species, which was once common in many everyday products, has been replaced by other materials. Many might associate beech with plastic-coated furniture in public spaces. Through the PRO BOK project, SPOK explores the collaboration between designers and producers of Scanian beech wood to investigate new uses and innovations in this high-quality material.
The exhibition demonstrates the possibilities of the wood species in future design and construction, as well as the advantages of working with locally produced timber. Through an open call, three Scanian designers and creators have been selected to develop a design or physical product where Scanian beech wood is the focus. The selected ones are VI PÅ ÖN, Förstberg Ling and Carl Emrik Fredrik Danielsson. The exhibition also features Ronja – a chair made entirely of Scanian beech – by the furniture producer Gärsnäs. Additionally, student works from a master’s course at the School of Industrial Design at Lund University will be displayed.
