V.JS.01 is a multifunctional stool designed by industrial designer Johan Skoogh for Verk.
The piece is conceived as a flexible object with four possible functions: stool, side table, pedestal and work surface.
Which of these it becomes depends entirely on how it is placed and used — a versatility that reflects Verk’s broader interest in furniture that earns its place through usefulness rather than through formal complexity.
The design focuses its attention on the joint between the top and the base. A visible dovetail connects the two elements and becomes the defining detail of the piece — a construction technique borrowed from traditional joinery that is here exposed rather than hidden, making the method of assembly part of the object’s visual character.
The stool is made exclusively from solid Swedish pine and is available either untreated or finished with natural linseed oil. Untreated pine will develop a patina determined by use and light over time; linseed oil gives the surface an initial warmth and some protection while allowing the wood to breathe and age naturally. Both options reflect Verk’s commitment to materials that are honest about their origins and processes.
Johan Skoogh is an industrial designer whose practice centres on considered, material-led design. Verk is a Swedish furniture manufacturer based in Stockholm that works exclusively with solid Swedish timber — oak, birch and pine — and a selected group of designers committed to the same approach.
