Sober is a stool designed by Studio Stockholm for Verk, catalogued as V.SS.01.
The piece is described as feeling natural within the Verk collection — as if it had always been there — which is partly a statement about the coherence of the brand’s approach and partly about the discipline of the design itself.
The stool is made from solid oak or birch and upholstered with vegetable tanned leather from Tärnsjö Tannery, one of Sweden’s most respected leather producers.
The combination of these materials defines the character of the piece: simple in its form, unpretentious in its ambition, but precise in its execution and exclusive in the quality of what it is made from.
Studio Stockholm is a Swedish design studio working across furniture, interiors and spatial projects. Verk is a Swedish furniture manufacturer with a strong commitment to local materials and production. The company’s catalogue is built exclusively around solid Swedish oak, birch and pine, always sourced within Sweden, and works with a selected group of designers whose practice aligns with that approach. The collection spans chairs, stools, tables and storage, each identified by a product code that reflects the designer’s initials and the sequence of their contribution to the range.
The Sober stool extends a growing collection of seating at Verk that prioritises material integrity and a quiet, considered aesthetic over formal complexity.
