100 YEARS OF SYSTEM PH

100 years ago, architect and cultural critic, Poul Henningsen (1894-1967) invented the iconic three-shade system, later simply referred to as System PH. And 100 years later, his carefully calculated construction of shades, combined with ideal angles and ideal form, still compose the perpetual core design principle of Louis Poulsen’s exceptional lighting design.

To honour this 100th anniversary of Poul Henningsen’s defining work, Louis Poulsen presents the timeless PH Centenary Collection – a unique heritage launch designed by Poul Henningsen, consistent of a table lamp, a floor lamp and a chandelier.

HERITAGE TABLE LAMP AND FLOOR LAMP IN AGED BRASS

The PH 3 ó-2 ó Floor Lamp Centenary Edition and PH 3/2 Table Lamp Centenary Edition was originally launched in 1927 and both are based on his three-shade construction, as designed by Poul Henningsen and developed by Louis Poulsen in 1926.

The lamps are crafted in a heritage inspired finish in lacquered aged brass, and featuring mouth-blown glass shades in a combination of an Amber upper shade and White Opal lower shades providing both an ambient upwards light to the surroundings while maintaining a whiter downward directed light.

THE PH CHANDELIER IS BACK

At the centre of the Centenary Collection is the PH 1/1 Chandelier Centenary Edition, originally known as the Bombardement Chandelier and part of the Louis Poulsen catalogue from 1933 until the mid-60s. Designed by Poul Henningsen and introduced by Louis Poulsen to accommodate the general preference for chandeliers in private homes, as electric light sources came to replace the predominant kerosene chandeliers with silk shades.

The revived chandelier is a heritage design by Poul Henningsen and like the Table Lamp and Floor Lamp it is crafted in aged brass with fi ne hairlines, and featuring small PH 1/1 three-shade sets in mouth-blown dusty terracotta coloured opal glass. The PH 1/1 is the smallest number in the System PH, and with the Centenary Collection the fi rst reintroduction of this particular shade number.

The PH Chandelier Centenary Edition is available in three sizes, with 3, 6, or 9 arms, and each chandelier is carefully hand-engraved with a unique production number as emphasised by a limited quantity available globally, making it a true collector’s item to be passed down through generations.
