With its distinctive moulded back, the chair makes a strong statement on its own but is also designed to be a perfect companion for Eilersen’s sofas.

From carriage to modern chair

The cornerstone of the Eilersen company was laid when then 23-year-old Niels Eilersen set out to make the finest horse-drawn hunting wagon – and succeeded, thanks to his talent for innovative methods and his excellent craftsmanship. The same values take pride of place today, and both in Denmark and around the world, the Eilersen brand is recognized as synonymous with sofas of outstanding quality. Now, the company has built 125 years of craft experience into a chair: Funen, named after the island where Eilersen is located and constructed around a moulded back with reference to the characteristic design of the carriage.

The elegant lounge chair was created by the Swedish designer Pierre Sindre in close collaboration with Eilersen:

‘Eilersen has a long-standing tradition for making upholstered furniture with amazing comfort and a long lifespan. The goal was to create a chair with the same DNA as the sofas. The inspiration for the shape of the chair’s back came from Eilersen’s history and the company logo, a carriage portrayed in silhouette,’ says Pierre Sindre, whose designs are shaped by a dual focus on functionality and humanity.

The result is a generous and sensuous chair with the same exceptional comfort as Eilersen’s sofas – also in extended use. Visually, Funen has an elegant expression due to the small volume of the chair’s exterior contours.

Craftsmanship and design in every detail
Eilersen has a passion for detail, both the invisible features that ensure durability – from the choice of thread to the use of slow-growing Scandinavian pinewood for the construction – and the more visible qualities. In Funen, one detail in particular stands out: the brushed stainless steel front legs that expose the joint between the back shell and the seat frame and thus highlight the moulded back.

A chair – or more – for life
Funen seems to draw you in with its sensuous, laid-back lines, and you feel immediately at home the moment you nestle into its gentle embrace. Like Eilersen’s sofas, it is a beautiful companion for life and comes in two variants: a low and a tall lounge chair, with heights of 73 cm and 89 cm, that work in a wide variety of different contexts.

The low lounge chair offers a comfortable and inviting setting for relaxation and long conversations and works well in pairs or small clusters. The tall chair stands out with its long backrest and comfortable neck cushion that makes it ideal for contemplation, rest and reading.
The classic chair is available with an elegant footstool.

Pierre Sindre
Pierre Sindre is a Swedish furniture and interior designer who lives and works on Färingsö just outside Stockholm. Pierre has an education in interior design and furniture design from Konstfack in Stockholm. Prior to establishing his own design studio in 2014, he worked at several different architectural offices.
Among many other projects, Pierre has designed the interior for the Artipelag Art Gallery, Stockholm City Court, several restaurants, and many private homes.

Before collaborating with Eilersen, Pierre Sindre has worked as a furniture designer for many wellknown manufacturers, including Gärsnäs, Källemo, Gemla and Offecct.
