Just like the name of this chair implies, something is hidden between its parts. At a first glance this chair might appear to be an ordinary wooden chair, but if you look closer, the complexity of the design will gradually dawn on you. Sitting in this chair, you will experience not only its comfort, but also the joy of discovering its subtle and elegant details. In the hands of Spanish designer Mario Ruiz, the knowledge of woodwork and innovative use of industrial machinery has resulted in a physical Haiku.
– The market is filled with classic wooden chairs that remain fresh and that work very well; so when designing this chair I was not following a new language, it would have been pretentious on my part. Especially so, in Scandinavia. A chair is an interplay of interconnected elements and this project raises the connection of all the parts in a way that is not common now and was not possible in the past, says Mario Ruiz.
Indeed the chair is a meeting between Scandinavian craftsmanship and advanced technology. The chair is light and durable and the woven seating can be supplemented with a range of specially selected fabrics that are easy to attach and remove. Haiku is the fifth project that is born out of a long and fruitful collaboration between Offecct and Mario Ruiz.
– Working with Offecct is always an experience that allows you to go forward. I like the way the company encourages designers to evolve, and to look for new ways of working. Few companies do this. Added to that there is an easy flow of communication and splendid personal relations, continues Mario Ruiz.
