News from Zero @ Stockholm Furniture Fair 2005

Stockholm Furniture Fair/Northern Light 2005.
We will show several new products designed by some of Scandinavias most well knowed designers

CAN
Design Mattias Ståhlbom
CAN works like a “can of light”. The boundary between dark and light is emphasised by enclosing the light in a container. CAN is made of lacquered metal in white or black. The inside is lacquered lime green. CAN is available as a pendant, floor or table fitting.

A.01
Design Kjellström & Sjögren Arkitektkontor
“The idea behind fitting A.01 is to create a focused light pattern that builds a space. A lacquered swept plate where the shape is tapered outwards results in a dynamic but simple design, effective without being too conspicuous. The underside and upper side are covered by two acrylic sheets, the top one being more diffused. The prototype for this fitting was produced for Villa 1.0, a new product range quality type house producing contemporary architecture and design.”
Wall fitting for outdoor use, fitted with 75 W light bulbs or 18 W compact fluorescent tubes.

DUOCONE
Design Henrik Shulz
Duocones construction gives it its expression. Simple and obvious in shape to blend in with its surroundings. This fitting is available in three sizes and with transparent and white glass.

EVEN
Design Thomas Bernstrand
A lamp hanging from a wire. The wire is not placed in the centre of the lamp but the lamp is still hanging straight. Made of cast aluminium and matt glass. Fitted with 22 W T5 circular fluorescent tubes.

HIDE
Design Thomas Bernstrand
A lamp with a hidden lamp source. The angle between the outside and the inside of the lamp is different but not visible to the viewer. The lamp source is placed in this space, and so it seems to disappear.

LINS
Design Gerhard Rehm, Ingrid Bärndal
“Our challenge was to work in as minimalistic a style as possible, and at the same time to design a professional, usable light fitting. Using a lens profile in an interior fitting follows a trend which is also apparent in the field of car lights, where lenses are used to replace conventional reflector technology.”
Suspended fitting, three variants. With T5 fluorescent tubes and lens optics or miro raster. Also available with LEDs. LINS is made of anodised aluminium.

PIN
Design Mattias Ståhlbom
In the PIN lamp, the beam of light cast by the reflector appears to be made of glass. Similar to when a comic strip artist draws a lamp and the beam of light is always described as a yellow cone.

POST
Design Björn Dahlström
A suspended fitting with a shade made of matt clear glass and stainless steel metal parts.
Fitted with bulbs or 18 W compact fluorescent tubes.

THREE
Design Mattias Ståhlbom
THREE is a design hybrid between three famous archetypal Swedish lamps: the shoemaker’s lamp, the ceiling light and the fabric shade. Striped shadows are cast on the walls with the aid of the openness of the steel mesh shade. Like a stripey wallpaper. THREE is made of lacquered metal mesh in white or black, and is available as a pendant or floor fitting.

VASA
Design John Löfgren, Petrus Palmér, Jonas Pettersson
“We created the VASA bollard to fill a niche and to strike a blow for man-lighting integration. The slim profile and clean lines of VASA are attractive even when the light is off, but of course the light is the focal point. VASA’s pleasant, anti-dazzle light pattern illuminates the surroundings without disrupting people’s natural night vision. Quite simply, this is a fitting that takes a humanistic approach.”
VASA is a bollard for lighting parks, footpaths, etc. Made of lacquered metal and opal acrylic. Fitted with 18 or 26 W compact fluorescent tubes.

WIBELL
Design Wingårdhs Arkitekter
“A transparent outdoor fitting that changes shape depending on the time of day. During the day, this fitting is an elegant attribute in its environment, a thoughtful gesture towards onlookers and its surroundings. At night, you can see a new fitting because the light, aimed downwards, also articulates the inner body of the fitting.” WIBELL is made of polycarbonate and aluminium and is suitable for street lighting, as well as for lighting parks, footpaths, cycle paths, etc. Fitted with compact fluorescent tubes (57 W), halide lamps or high pressure sodium lamps (70 W or 150 W.

Designer Thomas Bernstrand
THOMAS BERNSTRAND trained to be a designer at the School of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm and Danmarks Designskole. Thomas works as a designer for a number of Swedish and international companies, he has completed art projects attracting a lot of attention, he has held exhibitions at Colette in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others, and he has won the Furniture of the Year award for 2005. He has started working with Zero and Pukeberg over the past year, designing the HIDE and EVEN series of fittings and the FLOOR wineglass.

Designer Mattias Ståhlbom
MATTIAS STÅHLBOM trained at the School of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. He has designed furniture and kitchen utensils for a number of renowned Swedish companies, but he has also done design work in New York and received a number of scholarships, including the “Young Design” award, and taken part in exhibitions and major trade fairs such as “Swedish Style” in Tokyo, the Milan Furniture Fair and the Seoul Design Fair. For Pukeberg, he has designed the FALL bowl, and he has designed the THREE fitting for sister company Zero.

Designer Niklas Ödmann
NIKLAS ÖDMANN trained at the Swedish University College of Film, Radio, Television and Theatre and has worked at many different theatres in Stockholm. He has been running a lighting architecture company for a few years now, working on lighting for the Ingvar Kamprad Design Centre in Lund and OMX Head Office, Frihamnen, among others. His current projects include the Kista Galleria Shopping Centre and the Apoteket lighting concept. Niklas Ödmann’s first fitting for Zero is called RIB.

Industrial designer Björn Dahlström
BJÖRN DAHLSTRÖM works with product design and graphic design, but he has also been a professor at the School of Arts, Crafts and Design and taught at Beckmans School of Design. Björn Dahlström has created a number of highly acclaimed furniture projects and received international awards, as well as “Excellent Swedish Design” a number of times. He has been designing fittings for Zero for a number of years, his latest product being the POST glass pendant.

Wingårdhs
WINGÅRDHS is one of Sweden’s leading architects. This company works on architecture, interior fittings and design both in Sweden and internationally. Wingårdhs has designed the WIBELL outdoor fitting and the CUT wall lamp for this year’s furniture fair.

Designer Henrik Schulz
HENRIK SCHULZ trained as an architect at Chalmers in Gothenburg and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, as well as training in design at Danmarks Designskole. Henrik Schultz is now making his first appearance as a designer for Zero with the DUOCONE fitting.

Designers Ingrid Bärndal and Gerhard Rehm
INGRID BÄRNDAL is an industrial designer who trained at the School of Arts, Crafts and Design. She works with product design, interior fittings, graphic design and jewellery design. Her clients include Telia and Elektrolux. Her work has been on display at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Stockholm since 2001, and she has won a number of “Excellent Swedish Design” awards.
GERHARD REHM is an interior designer, MFA and lighting designer, ELDA. He works both in Sweden and internationally with lighting, interior fittings and design. Gerhard Rehm has received a lot of awards for “Excellent Swedish Design”. Ingrid Bärndal and Gerhard Rehm have been designing fittings for ZERO for the last few years, and new this year is their LINS fitting.
