The Egg chair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, alongside the Swan chair and Drop chair.

Created as part of Jacobsen’s total design approach to the hotel, the Egg has become one of the most recognized chairs in the world.

Each Egg chair requires exceptional skill to produce. The organic, sculptural shell is formed over a strong fiberglass frame, then upholstered by hand—a process requiring significant expertise. Fritz Hansen’s upholsterers spend years mastering the techniques needed to achieve the chair’s distinctive seamless appearance.

The 60th Anniversary Edition featured exclusive finishes and materials, commemorating six decades of continuous production. Since 1958, the Egg has been manufactured exclusively at Fritz Hansen’s facility in Allerød, Denmark, maintaining the quality standards established under Jacobsen’s supervision.
