Iron Meets Concrete
How Jonas Bohlin’s 1981 Graduation Project Became a Design Classic
The Concrete chair, made of iron and concrete, was Jonas Bohlin’s graduation project at Konstfack in 1981. It gained attention from Källemo’s founder Sven Lundh, who included it in his collection and produced it in a limited edition of 100 pieces. The unconventional design and material choices challenged the prevailing concept of quality in Swedish furniture.
Jonas Bohlin began his collaboration with Källemo in 1981. He has been awarded several scholarships and prizes, such as the Bruno Mathsson Prize, the Prince Eugen Medal, the Georg Jensen Prize, and the Golden Chair.
Bohlin is represented at the Designmuseum in Copenhagen, the Swedish Cultural Centre in Paris, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the Malmö Art Museum, the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, and the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg.
