Ernst Billgren The National Stool | Källemo Limited Edition

When Ernst Billgren created the exhibition New Memories for the National Museum, he took a holistic approach to the experience. As an artist and set designer, he painted and designed both the artworks and the interior design of the rooms

“I imagined the whole exhibition how it would look. I imagined a Czech country museum in the 70s with rather dusty, cracked paintings. I would have liked to have those little old ladies sitting on stools and you don’t really know if they are dead or alive. By the way, I have made a stool called the National Stool and it will be included in the exhibition.”

The National Stool, produced by Källemo, became both an exhibition object, part of the scenography, and a utility item where visitors could sit down and take in the exhibition.

Källemo’s production of the National Stool now, in collaboration with Ernst, takes it beyond the museum’s halls. It carries with it the idea of the exhibition and the story that gave it shape.

The National Stool is published in two numbered editions of 49 copies each: Summer and Winter.

The editions are made of oak with mosaic details and painted landscape motifs by Ernst Billgren. The seat is upholstered in leather. The base is in brass. Each copy is provided with a brass plate and numbering.
